Week in Review
Last week in golf was a rollercoaster—some breakthroughs, some backslides, and the usual dose of frustration. There were wins, fails, and a few moments that made me question my life choices. But hey, that’s the game, right? I had range sessions that actually felt productive, picked up some key swing fixes, and even had a round where I kept the ball in play the whole time. Progress! But by Sunday, golf had plenty of ways to humble me. Want the gory details? Read on…
Monday was range day, and luckily, a couple of friends were there to spot some issues right away and give me actionable advice. My spine angle is still a disaster, so fixing it has to be my top priority. I’ve been working on this drill to get into the right position, and honestly, it’s wild that after two years of lessons, no one emphasized this before. Another glaring issue—one that helps explain my persistent slice—is that I’m opening the clubface on the takeaway. So, I’ve re-added keep wrists engaged to my swing priorities and plan to drill a better takeaway during practice.
Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday were for on-course practice—I played 9 holes each day and kept score. The games were hit or miss (the par 3s here can suck it), but I managed to par hole 1 and, for the first time, didn’t drive off the fairway at all in my last round! Playing was fun, but my swing still needed work—so back to the range I went.
Friday was range practice again—an hour and a half of drilling and refining. And hold onto your seat—I made more consistent shots than ever! No video evidence, so you’ll have to take my word for it. But for once, I didn’t flub the majority of shots. Dare I say a double-bogey game might be in my future? 🤣
Oh, nay nay.
Sunday was game day with the hubs. We played 18 holes with a couple from the neighborhood. Everyone agreed not to keep score to keep the game light. We’re all working on things and didn’t want a permanent record of the chaos. Boy, was that a good idea!
It was a rough one. My body was so tired. Basically, every issue from my If’n When I Top It/Chunk It lists showed up—losing posture, hanging back, overswinging—you name it. And, of course, the par 3s were a disaster. I don’t know what it is about them, but I’m starting to think they’re cursed. So, one step forward and two steps back.
What did I learn this week?
- I really need to get stronger. Not breaking news, but now that I’m focused on rotation, I can see just how important a strong core is—and I don’t have it.
- Playing four times in one week is too much.
- I need to work on my short game more
My back is officially over golf right now, so I’m taking a short break—don’t worry, I won’t be gone long—then shifting my focus back to range work and strengthening exercises.
Current handicap: 48.1

Swing Priorities
- Keep a proper spine angle (back to target)
- Put pressure on the inside of my trail foot in the takeaway
- Keep trail knee flexed, push off to swing
- Get my shoulder under my chin in the backswing
- Keep wrists engaged (from takeaway to release)
- Turn everything together—arms, chest, and hips working as one unit
- Take half swings
