Eureka!
So, I’ve been firmly planted on the struggle bus lately. Since my last update, I played miserably at the Wednesday Spark League, played even worse on the simulator with the hubs (seriously, that sim really shook me), and got thoroughly roasted by my Golf Fix app. I felt completely brain-dead, like I had no clue how to swing a club. Nothing felt right, and worse, I had zero ideas for how to fix it.
Then, like it was reading my mind (or just my desperate search history), Google dropped this video into my feed. Pro tip: watch on 2x speed
Cue angel chorus
I did the drill in the garage and suddenly… it clicked. Like, actually clicked. I finally felt something that resembled a real golf swing. So many times I’ve swung with wonder, as in, “I wonder if I’m going to hit the ball or the ground?” But this time? I had a purpose: shift my weight and swing down.
I put a ball in front of me, historically a kiss of death, and was thrilled when I forcefully brought my trail arm down, swung into the turf and physics took care of the rest. You know what I did next? The same thing! Then I did it again, and again, and again with my driver, 3 wood, 7 iron and pitching wedge! Automatically, I started swinging from the inside out. I released the club for the first time ever! My club face was closed (kinda), my head stayed down… I’ve been trying to force these puzzle pieces together for an eternity, and for once, they actually fit.
Now, let’s just hope I remember how to do this tomorrow.
